Transvaginal Mesh Lawsuit
Women continue to report serious injuries after receiving transvaginal mesh implants. Many transvaginal mesh (or TVM) products remain on the market and are still used to treat female incontinence. As dangerous side effects come to light, however, the FDA has issued heightened safety warnings to consumers about these devices. At the same time, over 70,000 women have filed a transvaginal mesh lawsuit to pursue compensation for significant legal damages.
Mesh Lawsuits Allege Defective Design
In April 2014, the FDA announced a proposal to reclassify transvaginal surgical mesh from a moderate-risk device (class II) to a high-risk device (class III). After a prolonged safety review, the FDA identified “clear risks” associated with using surgical mesh to repair pelvic organ prolapse. The agency proposed an order requiring manufacturers to “demonstrate a reasonable assurance of safety and effectiveness” for continued use of surgical mesh to treat POP.
