Xarelto is a prescription blood-thinner with sales in excess of $2 billion. Since its release on the market in 2011, however, a growing number of reports have linked the medication to a risk of severe bleeding. These bleeding events may have no means of reversal once they occur, resulting in life-threatening injuries. If you or a family member experienced irreversible bleeding, you may have grounds to file a Xarelto lawsuit for compensation.

Is There a Xarelto Class Action Lawsuit?

A Xarelto class action proceeding has not been established in the United States. A Xarelto class action would consist of a single lawsuit on behalf of all claimants within a given state or nationwide, with any recovery in the case distributed amongst the class members.

Instead, the current Xarelto litigation is composed of hundreds of individual lawsuits wherein each claimant files a separate case. This means you will be represented by your own attorney and litigate your case according to the legal damages you personally experienced.

At the same time, individual cases can still be coordinated with one another for certain pretrial purposes. For instance, all Xarelto lawsuits in federal court have been centralized for handling in the Eastern District Court of Louisiana (MDL No. 2592). Similarly, a coordinated state court action is now pending in the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas (Case No. 140802597).

These coordinated actions are known as “mass torts” and aim to resolve the litigation more expeditiously while preserving individual Xarelto lawsuits for each claimant.
