Zoloft is in a class of antidepressant medications known as SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors). As a class, sales of SSRIs are reported to be as high as $20 billion per year. Recent medical studies have raised concerns, however, that SSRIs can increase the risk of birth defects in children whose mothers use these drugs during pregnancy. Zoloft lawsuits are now underway in state and federal court proceedings around the country to compensate victims and their families.

In the pending cases, Zoloft lawyers allege the drug poses an increased risk of heart defects, neural tube defects, anal atresia, and other significant injuries to infants. The plaintiffs allege further that these birth defects are potentially fatal and that the manufacturer intentionally or negligently failed to warn consumers.

Our Zoloft lawyers continue to investigate whether the drug manufacturers were aware of serious risks to unborn children and whether the companies failed to properly warn doctors and patients. Medical researchers have reported that evidence of reproductive risks is clear, while at the same time, evidence that SSRIs are effective at treating depression during pregnancy is lacking.

In addition to failure to warn, Zoloft attorneys allege the drug is defectively designed and poses an unreasonable risk of harm to women of childbearing age regardless of the warnings given.

If your family has been affected by birth defects, we invite you to consult an experienced Zoloft lawyer in our office at no cost. During a phone consultation, your Zoloft attorney can inform you about the risk of birth defects associated with SSRIs and what you can expect from the litigation process should you decide to move forward with a claim.
